Why Kaplan

Japanese Interpretation Built for Hierarchy and Technical Precision

Keigo Handled Correctly

Japanese business speech encodes seniority and relationship through honorific verb forms. An interpreter who renders everything in neutral English strips out information the room was relying on, and visiting executives notice.

Technical and Manufacturing Depth

Factory audits, quality reviews and engineering sessions run on consecutive interpreting while walking a floor, not seated conference work. We brief interpreters from the agenda and part vocabulary before the walk starts.

California and Japan Time Zones

Japan runs sixteen or seventeen hours ahead of Pacific time depending on daylight saving, so bridging calls land early morning or late evening here. We schedule interpreters for those windows rather than moving the meeting.

FAQs

Common Questions About Japanese Interpretation

Do your Japanese interpreters handle keigo and business hierarchy correctly?

Yes, and it is the most common reason a Japanese assignment goes wrong. Keigo encodes seniority and relationship through verb forms and vocabulary. An interpreter who flattens it into plain English removes the part of the message that told everyone where they stood.

Are your Japanese interpreters court certified in California?

Japanese is not one of the twelve certified spoken languages in California; Japanese interpreters credential through the registered path, which requires the written exam and the oral proficiency exam in English (courts.ca.gov/2695.htm). For depositions and hearings we staff registered interpreters and send the credential packet to chambers ahead of the date; see our Japanese legal interpreters in Los Angeles and in San Francisco. The California Japanese bench is smaller than Spanish or Mandarin, so we ask for more notice on onsite court work.

Do you provide Japanese interpreters for remote depositions and court hearings outside California?

Yes. Most of our Japanese legal work outside California is remote: county court hearings, depositions with a witness in Japan, and arbitration sessions on video. Each state court sets its own rules for interpreters in languages it does not certify, so we confirm what the court coordinator needs and send the interpreter's credentials before the date. See our deposition interpreters for how remote and onsite sessions are set up.

Do you interpret Japanese for commercial arbitration and mediation?

Yes. The common shape is a Japanese manufacturer or trading house on one side and a U.S. distributor or licensee on the other, so the interpreter carries commercial and legal vocabulary in both directions for a full day. We staff neutral interpreters and brief them on the contract terms beforehand. For hearings and client meetings across all languages see our legal interpreting services.

Can you interpret Japanese for factory audits and technical reviews?

Yes. Audits move between a meeting room and a production line, which is consecutive interpreting on the move. We brief the interpreter from the agenda and part vocabulary in advance so the technical terms are settled before the assignment begins.

How much notice do you need for a Japanese interpreter?

Japanese is a smaller bench than our highest-volume languages, so we ask for about a week for onsite corporate and court work. Remote assignments are easier to fill on short notice. Check availability or call (833) 547-7770.

Do you cover calls that bridge California and Japan?

Yes. Those calls land early morning or late evening Pacific time. We staff interpreters for those windows rather than asking either side to move the meeting.

Can you provide certified Japanese document translation as well?

Yes, as separate written work from the interpreter. Our certified Japanese document translation covers contracts, corporate filings, family register records and technical documentation, with certificates of accuracy accepted by USCIS and California courts.

Where do you cover Japanese interpreting onsite?

Our strongest onsite coverage is Los Angeles County, in Little Tokyo, Torrance, Gardena and the South Bay. See our Japanese interpreters in Los Angeles. Remote coverage is available nationwide, and for Japanese across all settings see the Japanese language page.
