Where the state's interpreter stops and yours starts

North Carolina's Judicial Branch supplies interpreters at state expense for proceedings in its own courts. It does not cover a retained attorney's own client meetings, private mediations or arbitrations, and those are the assignments Triangle firms usually book with us. When a hearing is coming up, we keep the court's interpreter and ours apart, so preparation meetings and the hearing itself never compete for the same person's time. We wrote about the 2026 rate dispute between the state's court interpreters and the Judicial Branch in our post on what it meant for hearings.

Three cities, three courthouses, one booking

Raleigh sits in Wake County, Durham has its own county courthouse, and Chapel Hill matters go to the Orange County courts in Hillsborough. A single case can touch all three, along with a deposition in an office park off I-40. Give us every address at the start and we plan the interpreter's day around them. For on-site work in a language our Triangle roster does not cover, we say so before you confirm and offer video. Charlotte matters are on our Charlotte page, and every other metro is on the interpreters hub.

FAQs

Raleigh Interpreters Questions

How do I hire an interpreter in Raleigh?

Call (833) 547-7770 or request a quote with four details: the address, the date and start time, the language, and what kind of meeting it is. A deposition and a clinical consent visit need different preparation, so the setting decides who we send. We confirm the interpreter's credential and the mode in writing.

Do you provide interpreters for depositions in Durham and Chapel Hill?

Yes. Send the notice and the names that will come up, and the interpreter arrives with spellings and defined terms already agreed. The conventions for the oath, read-backs and exhibits are on our deposition interpreters page, and other legal settings are under legal interpreters.

Does the court provide the interpreter, or do I book one?

For a proceeding in a North Carolina state court, the Judicial Branch provides the interpreter at state expense. Your own out-of-court meetings with the client, private mediations and arbitrations fall outside that, and that is where counsel books one.

Can you provide certified translation in Raleigh?

Yes, as a written service separate from interpreting. Court exhibits, contracts, academic and employment records and clinical study documents are translated and returned with a signed certificate of accuracy. Legal documents go through certified legal translation, and consent forms and patient materials through certified medical translation.

Can you support a research study that runs over several months?

Yes. A study with repeat visits works best with the same interpreter or a small team for its whole run, briefed on the protocol once. Tell us the visit schedule and the languages your participants speak, and we will say which visits we can cover in person and which by video.

Which languages can you cover in the Triangle?

Spanish is the language we are asked for most often, and we also place interpreters in French, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin, Vietnamese and many others. Some of those languages have a Triangle-based interpreter on our roster and some do not, so we tell you which mode applies before you book. American Sign Language is booked through our ASL interpreter team.

Is a video interpreter good enough for my meeting?

Often, yes. A status call, a benefits meeting or a short clinic follow-up runs well on video. A sworn deposition, a contested mediation or a first consent visit with a nervous participant goes better in person. We give you an honest recommendation for the setting rather than defaulting to whichever is easier to staff.

How do you price a Raleigh assignment?

Each assignment is quoted on its own setting, length, language and any travel, and you receive the figure in writing before you confirm. Request a quote or call (833) 547-7770.
